  • Ahead with Horses

    Outstanding Contribution to Handicapped Children maximizes the potential of disabled, disadvantaged, special-needs children providing developmental therapy, education, and recreation through horses and related experiences, with measurable improvement physically, mentally, socially, and/or emotionally resulting in increased self-sufficiency and the ability to lead better and more independent and productive lives. The program provides developmental therapy services to 200 children each week. 1,000 children participate in field trips and-or special activities. Advisory Board

  • Book Publicists of Southern California; Irwin Award

    The IRWIN Award formally and publicly recognizes BPSC members who conduct the best book sales/promotion campaigns. Honorees share with the BPSC audience the steps they took that led to the success of their book promotion campaigns. Dr. Ava was awarded the Best International Campaign of 1998 for her book, Love Around the House.

  • Writers Digest; National Self Published Book Awards

    Contest aim is to raise profile of self-published books, with librarians and booksellers. Dr. Ava received a Certificate of Merit for her book, Confessions to a Sexologist in 2001.

  • North American Bisexuality Conference

    Featuring three days of interactive workshops, discussions, entertainment, and social events, the NACB is for people interested in bisexuality, as well as sexual and gender diversity. The conference brought over 700 attendees including authors, researchers, heath care professionals, and advocates from across North America: the US, Canada, and Mexico. Dr. Ava was the keynote speaker and received an Appreciation award in 2003.


  • Dr. Ava took karate classes for over a decade and earned her black belt in Shotokan Karate 1995.
